College Football Preview

Ill give my top 25 in a minute, but I want to gripe for a second. I have this auspicious feeling that we are going to see Ohio State versus another SEC team again. This time I think Florida will be the team. I just don't understand how Ohio State can get to the BCS Championship without having to play in a conference championship. Yes, they do play USC on Sept 13th, but even with a loss, they can run the table and get into one of the two Championship spots. I feel the same way about USC, but being in the Pac-10 means that the Trojans will play in several tough games...not just a season ending game against Michigan.

Don't get me wrong, Ohio State is very good. Beanie Wells may contend for the Heisman. They have an experienced QB, and LB James Laurinaitis is one of the best. Two years in a row I've thought there were better teams in the BCS than Ohio State, but there they are...easy picking for the speed and power 0f the SEC.

Now, here is my top 25.

1. Florida
2. USC
3. Ohio State
4. Oklahoma
5. Georgia
6. Missouri
7. LSU
8. Texas
9. Auburn
10. Kansas
11. Clemson
12. Penn State
13. Virginia Tech
14. BYU
15. Tennessee
16. Texas Tech
17. Arizona State
18. Illinois
19. Alabama
20. West Virgina
21. Pittsburgh
22. Oregon
23. TCU
24. Mississippi State
25. Utah

I guess the only big surprise is that I didn't put Georgia in the top 3. Believe me, they have the ability, but their schedule is ridiculous. Road games at Auburn and Arizona State. They also have land mines against Florida, Alabama, and LSU...and a rivalry game against Georgia Tech.

The biggest sleeper out there for my money is West Virginia. They still have Pat White and Noel Devine..plus 8 returning starters on Defense.

That's it....thanks for reading.

Movie Review- "Tropic Thunder"

Hello everyone. This is my first blog and the first time I have written anything in it. Like I said in the email, this is for extra credit for a class I'm taking. The more interaction I have with you, the reader, then I am able to score in class. Thanks for reading even if you don't respond. Please feel free to correct my grammar or spelling at any time. Clay

First, allow me to qualify my reviews. I will be using a typical A-F grading scale. Personally, I am quite familiar with the letter C.

I saw "Tropic Thunder" on Friday night. I have to say it had several moments where I was chuckling out loud. This movie is along the lines of some of the Farrelly Brothers movie's like "There Something About Mary," and "Kingpin." So, there were fart jokes galore, racial comments, and even worse at times. The cast includes Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, and Jack Black, but it's Stiller and Downey that deliver most of the laughs. Well, that is unless Tom Cruise was on the screen. Quite simply, it's the best material Tom has churned out in a long time. His portrayal as Ben Grossman, a stereotypical producer with a potty mouth, too much body hair, and a bald head, is hilarious.

The plot centers around a big budget Vietnam movie.....kinda like Platoon, but with action heros in it. The director (Keith Coogan) decides (with the help of the "technical advisor" Nick Nolte, looking 115 years old) to shoot the movie "guerrilla style" and drops the cast in the middle of the jungle. The actors of course, think that every bullet that's fired is a blank and the bugs won't bite. The movie strays off course for a while when Ben Stiller's character, "Tugg Speedman" gets captured by local heroin producers and is forced to play a character from a previous movie. Of course, the gag is that this character is mentally retarded...hilarity ensues. It's borderline offensive. The point that's made in the movie is that to win an Oscar, you have to play someone mentally challenged. I do find it interesting that Adrian Brody (The Pianist), Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump), Geoffrey Rush (Shine) and of course, Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man) have all won Mr. Oscar. Anyway, the bit got old after a while and the plot suffered for it.

All in all, I think this is a good movie to see if you like a certain kind of humor. I do, and Tom Cruise saves it from mediocrity. B
